Our Mission:

Destination Brooklyn: Black Brooklyn Culture Tours is a group of small Brooklyn businesses partnering to promote Brooklyn as a place to eat, live, work, and shop from a proactive marketing business perspective.

Purpose:

  • To introduce the diversity of Black Brooklyn to others and other Brooklynites.
  • To access new audiences and increase business and outreach for small businesses.

The Scoop:

DESTINATION BROOKLYN: Black Brooklyn Culture Tours is an initiative to bring more visitors into these neighborhoods (once a month), give more exposure to these business and selective avenues where there are a cluster of black businesses as well as a larger marketing model for business collaboration in Brooklyn.

The tour will cost about $40 and introduce visitors to Brooklyn fashion icons like Moshood, and Brenda Brunson-Bey of Tribal Truth Collections, cultural institutions like MoCADA and galleries like Motique Gallery; restaurants like Cheryl's Global Soul (a chef on the Food Network); and Brooklyn shopping staples like Pieces, Calabar Imports and Harriet's Alter Ego and new stores like Stellas and Awedacity.

 

Focus Neighborhoods:

The tours focus on five neighborhoods and Black (African American, African, and Caribbean) businesses, sites and cultural institutionsin these areas:

  • Bedford Styvesant
  • Fort Greene
  • Clinton Hills
  • Prospect Heights
  • Flatbush
  • Crown Heights

Businesses/Sites/Stops:

The tour begins at 10am with the bus departing from Long Island University (Dekalb and Flatbush Avenue) and weaving its way to Myrtle Avenue for early morning shopping and MoCADA and Fulton Street area in Fort Greene and Clinton Hills.

The next stop would be Tompkins Avenue and Lewis Avenue in Bedford Stuyversant heading to for lunch on Underhill Avenue and shopping on Washington Avenue, Vanderilt Avenue and Flatbush Avenue in Prospect Heights.

The final phase of the tour will be on Flatbush Avenue and Church Avenue in Flatbush area.

The tour will focus on seven avenues in Brooklyn:

  • Fulton Street, Fort Greene and Bedford Stuyvesant
  • Mytle Avenue, Clinton Hills
  • Washington Avenue, Prospect Heights
  • Flatbush Avenue, Flatbush
  • Church Avenue, Flatbush
  • Lewis Avenue, Bedford Stuyvesant
  • Tompkins Avenue, Bedford Stuyvesant
  • Nostrand Avenue, Crown Heights
